Irish WW1 War Graves Rededication Services – July 2024

Organised by the Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre, rededication services will take place on 08, 09 and 10 July, in France and Belgium, for ten personnel who were Killed in Action during the First World War, while serving in the following units: The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers; The Royal Dublin Fusiliers; The Royal Irish Fusiliers; and The Royal Dublin Fusiliers.

The UK’s Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre Commemorations Centre is responsible for attempting to identify British personnel killed in historic campaigns dating back to the Great War, and for arranging a military ceremony.

Details of the ten Rededication Services are as follows:

Tuesday, 08 July 

1030hrs: A rededication service for CQMS John Doherty MM of 1st Battalion The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, KIA 22 March 1918, at Savy British Cemetery, France.

Wednesday, 09 July 

1015hrs:  A rededication service for Serjeant Laurence Connell MM of 1st Battalion The Royal Dublin Fusiliers, KIA 5 October 1918, at Dadizeele New British Cemetery, Belgium.

1115hrs:  A rededication service for Second Lieutenant Joseph Bryson MC att. 9th Battalion The Royal Irish Fusiliers, KIA 6 October 1918, and Second Lieutenant William Cunningham att. 1st Battalion The Royal Irish Fusiliers, KIA 1 October 1918, at Dadizeele New British Cemetery, Belgium.

1500hrs:  A rededication service for Private William McCann of 1st Battalion The Royal Dublin Fusiliers, KIA 21 October 1918, at Stasegem Communal Cemetery, Belgium.

Thursday, 10 July

1030hrs:   A rededication service for Corporal Edward Doyle, Private Bertie George Reynolds MM, Lance Corporal James Freer and Lance Corporal George Washington of 1st Battalion The Royal Dublin Fusiliers, KIA 28 and 29 September 1918, at Hooge Crater Cemetery, Belgium.

1430hrs:   A rededication service for Captain Valentine Knox Gilliland of 2nd Battalion The Royal Irish Rifles, KIA 7/8 May 1918, at Divisional Collecting Post Cemetery and Extension, Belgium.
