Military Service Information

Military Service Information

Through its Web Site and Contact information, the Military Heritage of Ireland Trust actively assists families, researchers and students throughout Ireland and worldwide world, to access military service information of relatives, friends and individuals.

For example, during 2013, a considerable number of queries were received from Ireland, England, Australia, New Zealand and the USA, on a vast range of issues such as Irish soldiers in Iraq in 1932, Prisoners of War, 37th and 65th Regiments’ service in Ireland, Irish Volunteers, National Army, a Great Grandfather who served in Tipperary in 1831 and a Grandfather who served in Mullingar Barracks in 1888.

Unfortunately, the Trust cannot undertake genealogical research and does not maintain a database of military archival material. Rather, on request, the Trust will provide appropriate guidance for links to relevant sources, or repositories, containing relevant military information.

In addition, families seeking service records of relatives who served in armed forces are encouraged to refer to the Research Guide on the Trust’s Web Site, where considerable information is provided on issues such as appropriate sources, archives, museums, libraries and the internet.

The Trust welcomes feedback from individuals who avail of its Military Service Information facility and its Research Guide.
